A group of us from Raise Your Voice.Art recently travelled to Butte America for a little artist retreat. We had the best time. We were equally mesmerized by the architecture and by the rich history of the gilded age.
In the late 1800's the political landscape here in Montana was full of corruption with wealthy men buying favors and seats in Congress. They made a mess of things environmentally and there were many human rights vioations all while enriching themselves.
Because of the immense social inequality, unions formed and the people fought back. Despite Montana shifting red in the past years, today Butte is still a democratic stronghold thanks to the rich history and lessons learned.
